Over the last two years, the ecobrick movement has exploded in the UK. What started as a trickle of interest in early 2018, after the release of Blue Planet II’s episode on plastic pollution, soon turned into a torrent as investigative journalism showed the failure of the UK’s recycling system. In April our first UK GEA Trainers completed their trainings and join our team. In October 2018, ecobricks.org crashed because of the hundreds of thousands of Britons seaking information on alternatives to recycling their plastic. Meanwhile, the UK Ecobricks facebook page grew by tens of thousands of subscribers. By the begining of 2019, hundreds of thousands of folks in the UK had turned to ecobricking as their solution for plastic and our UK Trainer Team was struggling to keep up with the rapacious demand for ecobricking know-how.

In August 2019, UK Ecobricks hosted Russell and Ani for a series of Ecobrick workshops in and around Southampton. These included two official Training of Trainers, catalyzed by SplitVision, a Swedish company keen on offseting its plastic transition. Through these UK training of trainers, and online equivalents, the UK Trainer Team has grown to 36 trainers in 2019.
