Hi there, can blister packs, like from tablets be ecobricked?
I know that aluminium foil can't be used because it rusts, so I assume that would make the blister packs a problem?

Thank you!

Hi there Natalie,

Its totally ok to pack the entire tablet blister pack inside.  Because the plastic and aluminum are joined together for this packaging, it cannot be recycled.  Because aluminum is a metal it won't lead to any biodegradation.  And good news... aluminum doesn't rust!  The main reason we don't put metals into ecobricks is because they are often pointy and sharp.  However, aluminum in small quantities is OK.

Its also good to keep aluminum out of the biosphere.  Recycling factories have systems for separating aluminum however only when it is about the mass of your fist.  Candy wrappers and small pieces of foil won't be big enough to be sorted.  Otherwise it just goes to the landfill.

Hope that helps,

Russell
